Tongue Twitch

One has to hand it to our Haryana girl. She knows how to grab limelight. ‘I am lonely and looking for love,’ she says. Fair enough.

Mallika Sherawat stars in a television show ‘Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika’ which is a spin-off from the American reality dating game show ‘The Bachelor’. The show revolves around an eligible bachelorette and a pool of romantic suitors, including a potential husband for the bachelorette.
More often than not,  I get the feeling that we are being mocked at by Mallika's statements. It all began when she declared, ‘In real life, I live like a nun. I am on the lookout for a man who has more guts than I have.’ Now that she is looking for love, the tryst with celibacy is perhaps done and dusted. Why else would she dirty dance with fifty-one year old Antonio Banderas? The lady is entitled to her share of fun. No issues.

But the lashings of duplicity were  too much to take when I saw Mallika’s interview at the show launch. ‘I am looking for someone who is intelligent.’ What is with girls wanting an intelligent man with a sense of humour? Don’t they finally get hitched by Mr. Money Bags? Laughter, after all cannot compete with diamonds and designer dresses. How many starlets have married stand-up artists, astronauts, professors or scientists?
Mallika feigned ignorance when asked about her rival Rakhee Sawant’s ‘Swayamwar’ charade. ‘I am looking for someone who is self-made. Someone like Karan Johar.’ Compared to another bachelor who made Himmatwala, Karan surely is blessed with dollops of intellect and fat pockets. However I am not sure of Karan’s self-made status. Maybe Mallika knows something, we don’t.

Before all the self-made, intelligent men begin to rejoice, let it be known that the erstwhile nun is also looking for a vegan, teetotaler companion. Maybe she is looking for a saint. But then she should head towards the mountains and not Hollywood. I loved the bit about considering Salman Khan’s application, if she received it. Our girl knows how to make the right noise. Her birthday song for  the most happening bachelor was  clearly a promotional stunt for her new show. YouTube.

‘I don’t want to do item songs anymore. Now I want to do performance oriented roles.’ Sure. With a riveting performance in ‘Ugli aur Pagli’ the lady has a lot of untapped talent. President Obama was supposed to be present at her Hollywood film premiere. ‘I have told the President that I want him to be present. He very graciously told me to make sure to send the invite across.’ No wonder our girl is proud of her guts.

Finally the erstwhile nun made a fascinating remark. ‘Draupadi, Sita …all chose their husbands through a swayamwara. If they could do it, so can I.’
Wah! Wah! After Draupadi and Sita the list of swayamwar holders has several illustrious people- Rakhee-ji, Rahul-ji,Veena-ji. And now Mallika-ji. Those who are na├»ve enough to believe that Mallika will eventually marry a contestant from a reality show should read between the lines, ‘Sometimes people don’t find true love even after several years of marriage. I am only looking for a companion.’

Since you are one gutsy girl Mallika, why not admit that the show is an entertainer and everything else is blah!

  1. These celebrities only make these statements for effect. After all, they know that controversy gets them the eyeballs.

  3. Alka you have correctly assessed that the impending reality show is only for entertainment and nothing else. Mallika Sherawat is also doing it for publicity. You have a very commanding style of writing.

  4. Actually, Alka, the problem is that you have not got a peek into her dictionary and are interpreting words based on the regular ones :) A 'Nun' in her book may mean a priestess of Astarte; an intelligent man is someone who had the brains to put together sufficient moolah and knows that he has to spend them on her etc. etc. Now, see, how truthful she is in her claims? :)

  7. Good analysis :-) I love both Rakhi Sawant and Mallika Sherawat! Both are gutsy women. As far as the reality shows go, they are scripted for maximum TRP.

  9. Strange it is, Alka, that I just read a post on Suresh's blog on Hypocricy! While he has mostly dealt in the concept, lamenting the heartburn hypocrites cause, you have dwelt on an exquisite specimen.

So, here is what I'll do -I'll say roughly the same things on your post. You already know I am a "self-plgiarist", so do bear with me:

It is futile to expect a leopard to shed its spots. There are beings whose ideas and actions are in consonance, as in Taliban. So, it is better to be a Mallika -although that would necessitate a sex change in my case - than a hated Taliban.

    2. Absolutely Ma'm. Thanks for asking. Just that we are so used to known trajectories that sometimes, it gets a little unnerving when we venture into the unknown. Going through such a phase. But, definitely on the right tracks :)

Are you considering writing a book? Somehow, I got this feeling.

    3. Not many can venture into the unknown. It takes conviction, wisdom and courage. Go for it. Good luck.

No, there are no plans to write a book.

  21. Come on Alka...this is real..why not just give it to the girl. She sure looks lonely to me:)
And, I thought at 36 she would find more career options what with Godfathers like Jackie Chan and Obama in her kitty. This is another low in her sagging career. Stunts never work for long.

There's huge controversy regarding her age and marital status too.

  22. Between Rakhiji and Veena ji you forgot Ratanji! Who I endured the summer before my wedding when I thought spending time with my parents before I wed would be a cool idea. Loved the part of "how many girls marry scientists or stand up artists.", well they do, if the wallets are thick enough. With most females its all about the wallet. They will run around with ten guys, and then go ahead and marry someone their parents chose, why bcz the parents already double checked the guys wallet.

    1. Starlets are used to a certain lifestyle. Intelligence and humor alone, it seems are not good enough.

  25. Mallika Sherawat is probably seeking publicity. She has been a dream for many boys. Some boys are lucky and manage to get her out of their thoughts because she may not be a person who will change nappies of babies or a lady who will make coffee and serve you on lazy Sundays.
Karan Johar is a great manager of large film projects. He has made people like his style of movies and no doubt was able to make Mallika like him.

  28. Ugh! I did catch a glimpse of the show and to say the line up of bachelors lining up to "marry" Mallika was comical would suffice. Each guy topped the other one in idiocy and general stupidity and to top it all we have the gutsy gal Mallika who drops one liners and crocodile tears at the drop of the hat. I have seen the US versions of Bachelorette and even though I am sure they are just as scripted as this one, it still makes for good TV whereas this one just takes up air time.
